Artist talk by J&K / Janne Schäfer and Kristine Agergaard
Venue:
- Raum 213 a/b, HFBK Hamburg
The artist duo J&K (Janne Schäfer, DE and Kristine Agergaard DK) have been working together since over 25 years and are based in Copenhagen and on the island Møn, where they have co-founded a community inhabiting an old farm. They have started their collaboration during their BA studies at Chelsea College of Art, London (1998-2001) and have since developed an interdisciplinary practice that is fundamentally concerned with performativity. In recent years they have focused on enquiries into and collaborations with living matter. J&K base their works on context-specific research, deep relating practices and participatory processes from where they weave the fabric of their complex, engaging and multi-layered works. In this artist talk Janne and Kristine present some of their major works and introduce their unique live-art practice. J&K have realised large-scale commissions and exhibitions internationally in institutions such as The Liverpool Biennial, Goethe Institut Cairo, Kunsten Aalborg, Karachi Biennial, Pergamonmuseum Berlin, Overgaden - Institut for Contemporary Art Copenhagen, and many more. In 2026 they will be having a major semi-retrospective exhibition at the National Gallery of Denmark.
