Exhibiting in an artist-run space? Use vacant rooms for pop-up exhibitions? Request advertising space as a temporary display? Studying art is about producing, but also about displaying – and exhibitions can be as experimental as the art itself. But how to start? What to bear in mind? What are the options?
The course introduces the basics of exhibition management – including creative, technical, financial and logistical aspects. Insights into PR and outreach are given and core topics of curating are introduced.
After completing this course, participants will have basic exhibition management skills. They will be able to independently identify creative and unconventional exhibition venues and use them for their art projects. They will have an understanding of the technical, financial and logistical challenges involved in planning and realising exhibitions and will be able to manage these in a focused manner. They also have initial insights into PR and art education in order to make their projects accessible to a wide audience. Basic knowledge of curating enables them to develop and realise experimental exhibition concepts.
