Keep Them Guessing
Venue:
- HFBK Boutique
Omid Arabbay, Luzie Ana Catalina Katzorke
Opening: January 22, 6 p.m.
Blurry. Blink. Bluish. Beneath. As the name suggests, a shop window is supposed to display, present, and make something appealing. In a shopping street, this is nothing unusual and even invites people to engage in their own genre of strolling, known as “window shopping.” As an antithesis to the usual goings-on on Mönckebergstraße, the two artists Omid Arabbay and Luzie Ana Catalina Katzorke cover the large glass fronts of the exhibition space in the manner of a shop window. The interior remains hidden, veiled by blurry blue foils. The gesture of covering leaves room for imagination; vague shapes and patterns of light can be glimpsed behind the glass wall, creating a tension between attraction and uncertainty. There is one exception—a peephole appears on closer inspection, revealing a room within a room. Instead of walking by, it is worth taking a closer look, letting your eyes search and find. Contrary to a blue miracle while shopping, experience a poetic interior design based on the color blue and its associations: sky, sea, water, melancholy... Keep Them Guessing challenges consumer-oriented and fast-paced viewing habits, moving between longing and distance and, ultimately, paying homage to the blue in the world.
Questions
What kinds of things lie hidden beneath the surface, what cannot be seen directly and immediately? What does the color blue mean to you?
