Symposium

Representation and Presence. Artistic Research at HFBK Hamburg

10:00 Uhr

In the realm of all PhD programs of HFBK Hamburg we cordially invite to the conference on the topic of „Representation and Presence“.

What is art doing between representation and presence? What are its performativity and agency? Who speaks? Who acts? What counts as history, as art, as society? Which identities and exclusions are constructed in the process — and which counter-positions emerge?

PhD fellowswill reflect on questions of artistic representation (Darstellung), historical representation, and political representation (Stellvertretung). Contributions may address crises of representation and post-representational approaches in the sciences, the arts, and social movements, or a crisis of presence within the ongoing dynamics of neoliberal transformation and claims to immediacy.

The aim of the event is to initiate a discussion about research projects and to facilitate an exchange among doctoral students at the HFBK Hamburg.
