lumbung Radio is an online community radio project that has its starting point at documenta fifteen. It’s an open online broadcast that comprises of an inter-local network of distinct radios and audio practices. It operates in no specific time zones, and streams multiple languages, music, and art. Each participating radio station depends on its own means of production, way of thinking, learning, and sharing. lumbung Radio operates as a decentralized network of nodes that uses internet without its hegemonic agency. The intention is producing an audiophonic common space built on the multiplication of the existing practices of its contributors. lumbung Radio is coordinated by Station of Commons: An ongoing collaborative initiative on digital commoning practices by Grégoire Rousseau (Helsinki), Juan Gomez (Geneva), Minerva Juolahti, Alain Ryckelynck, Constantinos Miltiades, and Eddie Choo Wen Yi. For the Wartenau Assembly actors and contributors from lumbung Radio will be in conversation with Pascale Obolo (film-maker, researcher, curator, activist).
Pascale Obolo (Born in Yaoundé) is an independent film-maker, researcher, curator, activist and editor-chief of the art magazine Afrikadaa. She studied at Conservatoire Libre of French cinema in the Department of Production she earned her Masters in Film Paris VIII university in the section of experimental cinema. As an activist, her work throws the archives and memories into question and is dedicated to the themes of identity, exile, trauma, invisibility and racism. Her research focuses on the different practices of transmission of knowledge and decolonial pedagogies in art and activist circles. Her latest work scrutinises archives through the construction of historical narratives from a postcolonial perspective, through visual and cultural representations of political and economic history, through photography, video, sound and performance. Pascale Obolo is a member of the Academic Council of the art school on Réunion Island. She is also founder and director of the African Art Book Fair (AABF), an independent publishing fair that concentrates on practical editing skills and supports unique publications of a high quality in South(s) territories.
Pascale Obolo is a co-founder of AFRIKADAA: a contemporary art magazine, an intellectual and artistic laboratory that aims to create a dynamic setting in Paris and the African diaspora. It is also a media tool that produces a better visibility of artistic works, which offers artists establishment of a curatorial process. Her current research focuses on museum acquisition policies in the era of globalization and the possibilities of decolonizing institutional practices.
Grégoire Rousseau is an artist and educator based in Helsinki. He is graduated both as an Electrical Engineer and Master of Fine Arts, and is currently, a doctoral candidate at Aalto University with the research »Commoning Education, Educating the Commons«. His artistic work questions the role of the machine, the algorithm within the digitally controlled society, and the complexity of neoliberal interests in relation to public knowledge, to commons within the technological space. Besides his artistic practice, Rousseau has been teaching in the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts for ten years where he developed and implemented the first space dedicated to technology in2013. He regularly lectures on art within the technological space; Aalto University, ENSBA Paris, French Institute in Finland, CAC Shanghai. In 2001, he founded the electronic music record label Tuulanauhat; in 2014, he co-founded Rabrab Press with Sezgin Boynik, Journal for Political and Formal Inquiries in Arts. In 2018, he authored the publication »Learning from electric energy in the arts, Knowledge happens together«; in 2020 he initiated Station of Commons – a platform of commoning practices within the technological space. He exhibits regularly both in Finland and internationally; Titanik gallery, Kunstpavillon Munich, Oksasenkatu11, Cite internationale de Paris, Palais des Beaux-Arts museum in Paris, Manifesta13, documenta fifteen.
