Zwischen Stigma, Klischee und Selbstbestimmung - künstlerische und wissenschaftliche Forschung zu Abtreibung in Film, TV und Medien
Venue:
- Raum 106, Finkenau 42 (Neues Filmhaus), HFBK Hamburg
How do you research a topic that is socially stigmatised and often made invisible? What images and narratives can (not) be found in archives, newspapers and the collective cultural memory? What are the advantages and disadvantages of combining artistic and academic research?
The filmmaker, cultural scientist and HFBK graduate Franzis Kabisch will provide insights into her work on abortion and its representations, which has been ongoing since 2019. In addition to a scientific doctorate, she is also working on a found-footage documentary and other artistic projects: her short film "getty abortions" is currently showing at film festivals and was awarded the Golden Dove at DOK Leipzig 2023. At the talk, there will be an opportunity to watch the film and then discuss abortion images, power and the associated emotional scripts (Millar 2017).
