Sung Tieu (*1987) was born in Hai Duong, Vietnam, and grew up in Berlin. She graduated from the University of Fine Arts Hamburg (HFBK) in 2013 and studied at Goldsmiths College, London (2011). In 2018, she completed a postgraduate program at the Royal Academy of Arts, London. Her solo exhibitions have been held worldwide, including at the Museum für Gegenwartskunst Siegen (2024), Kunsthalle Nürnberg (2024), Kunst Museum Winterthur, Switzerland (2023), MIT List Visual Arts Center, Cambridge, US (2023), Amant, New York (2023), Neuer Berliner Kunstverein, Berlin (2023), Mudam, Luxembourg (2022), Kunstmuseum Bonn (2021), Galerie für Zeitgenössische Kunst, Leipzig (2021), Nottingham Contemporary (2020), and Haus der Kunst, Munich (2020).
She has participated in numerous international art biennales, including the 15th Gwangju Biennale (2024), the 14th Shanghai Biennale (2023), and the 34th Bienal de São Paulo (2021). Her works have also been exhibited at institutions such as MUMA, Monash University Museum of Art, Australia (2024), Taipei Fine Arts Museum (2022), Museion, Bolzano (2021), Kunsthalle Basel (2021), Museum Angewandte Kunst, Frankfurt, GAMeC Museum, Bergamo, and Hamburger Bahnhof, Berlin (2020).
Sung Tieu has been awarded the Schering Stiftung Award for Artistic Research (2024), the Rubens Promotional Award of the City of Siegen (2024), and the Audience Award for the Preis der Nationalgalerie, Berlin (2021), among others.
