Statement of the Presidential Board of the HFBK Hamburg on the DAAD Visiting Professorship of Reza Afisina and Iswanto Hartono
Reza Afisina and Iswanto Hartono of the ruangrupa collective are DAAD Visiting Professors at the Hamburg University of Fine Arts for the academic year 2022/23. By inviting the two curators, who co-directed documenta fifteen, the HFBK Hamburg is opening up a discussion space for students, teachers, and the interested public that will allow for a more in-depth and differentiated examination: especially of the artistic questions raised by documenta fifteen, such as the importance of the collective for art production, the significance of networks, or the testing of new art economies. These issues have by no means become obsolete with the conclusion of documenta fifteen.
President Martin Köttering: "The issues raised by documenta fifteen are extremely relevant for our students. Art colleges are places of social and artistic debate and, above all, of learning together from one another. It is important to endure contradictions and dissonance and to create spaces for differentiated statements - therein lies the quality of a democratic culture of discussion. We want to give the opportunity within the art academy to seriously reflect on the various issues in all their explosiveness and in a respectful atmosphere."
The Executive Board of the HFBK Hamburg includes President Prof. Martin Köttering, Chancellor Dr. Anna Neubauer, Vice President for International Affairs Prof. Ingo Offermanns and Vice President for Teaching Prof. Dr. Bettina Uppenkamp.
