Digitale Publication: "The New Woman"
Statement by the designers Karla Krey, Amira Mostafa and Liudmila Savelyeva (from Klasse Digitale Grafik with Prof Christoph Knoth and Prof Konrad Renner) about their design for the digital publication:
The digital publication for the research project The New Woman – How Female Artists and Designers Shaped the Image of Modernism serves as both an academic publication and an exhibition catalog. Similar to a printed book, the content appears in a linear order, allowing the user to experience the project in a consistent sequence. Two different scroll directions within the website—vertical and horizontal—take one on a journey through a staircase, following the path of 14 female artists and designers who were HFBK Hamburg students in the early 20th century. Using the navigation at the bottom of the screen, one can choose their own reading order, aside from the one suggested by the publication. Our design is not intended to replicate modernist ideas but instead references the future “New Woman.” In the playful chapter headings, we break Swiss typography rules and push the boundaries of legibility.
It was conceived and designed by Karla Krey, Amira Mostafa and Liudmila Savelyeva (Klasse Digitale Grafik bei Prof. Christoph Knoth und Prof. Konrad Renner)
