Sustainability
Sustainable development is crucial for a responsible shaping of society in the present and the future. The HFBK Hamburg is a facilitator between society, art and science and offers students, artists and the general public spaces for critical discourse and artistic research related to sustainability.
In the field of tension between economy, ecology and social issues, artists and scientists negotiate sustainability and in the process design, discuss and sharpen ideas, concepts and images of climate justice, solidarity or resource awareness in artistic confrontations.
Sustainable Development works towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) adopted by the UN in 2015. To this end, the HFBK Hamburg is guided by the Hamburg Master Plan for Education for Sustainable Development (ESD).
nsights into the implementation of the diverse structural and concrete measures, projects and experiments for sustainable development at the HFBK Hamburg can be found via the five fields of action: research, teaching, transfer, governance and service.

Voices of the multi-faceted discussion
The HFBK's sustainability report was the subject of controversial discussions in various committees. The polyphony and diversity of the university - or rather its discord - can be seen in three particularly striking voices whose engagement with the topic can be traced in the final report (only available in German).
The following are the three voices from the Sustainability Report.
Sustainability, like numerous members of the university community, is personally committed to social change that does justice to protecting the climate and living sustainably on planet Earth. Sustainability is informed by scholarly journals and believes that education for sustainable development should be a core goal of arts education and all areas of the university Sustainability demands restraint and moderation from fellows with reference to the tipping points - art must adapt to this as well!
PoV lives and works for the art academy not only since yesterday. Like sustainability, PoV stands up for the freedom of art. Of course, PoV would not say that "sustainability" is just another trend, but the areas of tension and conflicting goals are clear. For PoV an art academy is a space of possibilities and experiments, PoVs task is to ensure the greatest possible freedom and art. It is apparent that PoV and the institution set a framework for this and reflect on it together. That is why PoV is committed with great personal dedication.
Admin_Buero wants to move the university forward and is personally committed to its development. Itself is pleased that the individual students also benefit from this. So much has been achieved over the past few years, and sustainability also offers plenty of scope for development, if only the university community knows how to use it. Years of experience in administration teach that only the right course needs to be set. And for now, anyway, it's important to look with confidence at urgently needed changes: Let's do it!
