Here we call it the »Mensa«: the Hochschule für bildende Künste Hamburg’s cafeteria is located in the basement of the main building at Lerchenfeld. In summer, there is direct access to the terrace, which has a view of the green area around the Eilbekkanal. Like all canteens in Hamburg public buildings, it is also open to people unconnected to the university.
Every day Monday–Friday between 12.00 and about 15.00, the Mensa at the HFBK Hamburg serves lunch dishes, with a new menu each day, and always with vegetarian and vegan options. Seasonal and regional ingredients are used, with no pre-processed meals or flavor enhancers. Seconds are also available – simply bring your plate to the counter and ask for more. Additionally, it sells hot drinks and sandwiches (i.e. sandwiches made with organic brown bread, including vegan alternatives), plus cakes and freshly squeezed fruit juices from 9.00—18.00 h.
