2021/02/02: Lene Markusen ist Villa Romana Preisträgerin 2021
Lene Markusen, graduate and lecturer at the HfbK from 2011-2017, is one of this year's Villa Romana prizewinners, together with Pauline Curnier Jardin, Musa Michelle Mattiuzzi and Giuseppe Stampone. They were nominated by the jurors Susan Philipsz, artist and professor at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste Dresden, Peggy Buth, artist and professor of media art at the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst Leipzig and Anselm Franke, curator and head of the department of visual arts and film at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin as well as Marinella Senatore, artist.
The Villa Romana Prize is the oldest German art award. Since 1905 it has been awarded annually to four (in the beginning to three) young artists. It is accompanied by a ten-month working residency at the Villa Romana artists' residence in Florence, a free studio, and a monthly stipend.
