The Cusanuswerk is the scholarship foundation of the Catholic Church in Germany and awards grants in the form of study-related scholarships to particularly gifted students who are committed to the common good on the basis of their faith.

The support includes financial assistance for studies and an interdisciplinary educational program that encourages discussion about science and faith, society, and the Church. The financial support consists of a monthly scholarship and a monthly book allowance. Supplements for families and childcare may be added. In addition, the Cusanuswerk supports study visits, internships, and language courses abroad.

A selection process is held each year for students of fine arts. Participation in the selection process is based on recommendations from art colleges where the Cusanuswerk is represented by liaison lecturers. The decision on nominations by the HFBK Hamburg is made by Prof. Martin Köttering.
