The Research Fellowship at the Horst-Janssen-Museum 2027/28 is a one-year opportunity for early-career researchers and artists with a focus on drawing and graphic art. The fellowship provides a monthly stipend of €1,200 gross, a furnished two-room apartment near the museum in Oldenburg free of charge, and access to the museum’s extensive collections, archives, printing plates, and libraries. Fellows are expected to produce several research outcomes, including an interim report, a lecture or discussion, and a detailed written presentation of their research findings. Optionally, the research may result in an exhibition concept and a subsequent exhibition at the museum.

Who can apply?

  • Early-career researchers and artists

  • Applicants with a focus and expertise in drawing and graphic art

  • Applicants are expected to develop a research project that places the work of Horst Janssen in a new context in relation to classical and/or contemporary drawing.

  • Fellows are expected to reside in Oldenburg during the fellowship.

  • The fellowship is scheduled to begin on July 1, 2027, if possible.
