The promotion of internationality is very important for HFBK Hamburg. This is reflected not only in the high number of international students — almost 50 % of students have an international background — but also in the numerous exchange programmes, international project collaborations, special international scholarships and regular invitations of artists in residence to the HFBK.

The large network of international collaborations with other art academies, museums, galleries, festivals, cultural mediators and much more, which the HFBK Hamburg maintains and expands on a sustainable basis, offers teachers and students the opportunity to sharpen their view of their own socio-cultural environment, to realise their projects in different cultural contexts, to gain new perspectives and impressions and to experience and deepen global networking individually.

Studying internationally with HFBK Hamburg?

The Art School Alliance gives you the opportunity to spend a semester abroad as part of your studies at the HFBK. Twice a year, the HFBK accepts applications for a generous scholarship and a place to study at renowned partner universities in Africa, Asia, Europe and North and South America.

As part of the EU exchange programme Erasmus+, the HFBK maintains a European network with over 30 partner universities. Once a year, our students can apply for a subsidised study visit to Belgium, France, Italy, Sweden, Poland, the Czech Republic and many other European countries. Further information on planning your stay can be found here.

The Erasmus+ programme also provides funding for internships in other European countries all year round. More information on planning an internship in another European country is available here.
