More than 200 graduates from the 2025/26 academic year are showcasing their final art projects at the HFBK Hamburg. Discover the next generation of promising artists in a comprehensive exhibition that spans the entire studio and seminar spaces, complemented by a diverse program of performances.
The Stage Design Department is dedicated to the creation of scenic spaces in theater, film, television, performance, and digital formats. At its core is the development of an independent artistic position, reflected upon both practically and theoretically—from historical and contemporary theater discourses to questions of sustainable design. Based on their own artistic projects, students design and realize stage spaces and spatial installations, from initial concepts and models to fully realized productions.
They work with both analog and digital design methods, exploring experimental spatial forms and virtual worlds. In HFBK Hamburg’s diverse workshops and in collaboration with directing, dramaturgy, costume, lighting, sound, and video departments, students acquire the craft and technical skills necessary for designing theatrical spaces. Collaborations with renowned cultural institutions and exhibitions provide practical insights into professional fields.
International exchange programs, interdisciplinary connections within the university, and accompanying academic training broaden students’ perspectives and deepen their understanding of the history, theory, and current developments of theater.
