Katja Lonzeck’s work focuses on researching materials, their properties, origins, and life cycles. She experiments with classic and living materials such as glass, copper, mushrooms, and algae to reveal their function, aesthetics, and sustainability. In doing so, she consciously reflects on ecological and social aspects, questions the use of materials and their longevity, and teaches students to treat materials responsibly and in an interdisciplinary manner. She completed her studies in product design at the Kunsthochschule Kassel, where she co-initiated and established various initiatives such as the Biolab and the Offspace Autohaus Autohaus. In addition, she has been working as a freelancer for years, creating textile objects in an art and exhibition context and conceptualizing exhibitions. At documenta fifteen in 2022, she served as coordinator of the working group “Lumbung Kios.”
