Robert Janitz (born 1962 in Alsfeld, Germany), who studied Ethnology, Comparative Religion, Indology and Art History in Marburg, Germany, is a painter working in New York and Mexico City known for his large abstract paintings consisting of mixtures of oil with wax and flour on monochrome background. In his own examination of abstraction in painting, which is in the tradition of the works of Markus Lüpertz and Günter Förg, the process of painting itself is revealed on the canvas using simple repetitive, everyday hand movements comparable to manual labor. He has had several solo exhibitions in New York, Paris, Berlin, Brussels, London, Los Angeles, Seoul, Mexico City, Istanbul, among others.
