The Photography Workshop supports students in their individual project work as they develop an independent artistic practice in the medium of photography within the visual arts. It offers them the opportunity to experimentally try out and realize the most appropriate form for their own artistic project from a wide range of photographic processes, materials, and combinations thereof.
Students receive individual support in terms of both content and concept as well as technical aspects. In addition, specialist seminars on artistic and historical aspects of photography deepen the development of a personal artistic position.
Knowledge and skills are taught in camera technology, analog and digital laboratory work, and hybrid processes that combine analog and digital processes.
The laboratories offer, among other things:
Analog processes:
Negative processes and their development
Positive processes in black and white and color – from 35mm enlargements to large-format fine art prints
Transitions to printed photography, especially in artist’s books or digitally controlled printing processes
Digital processes:
Digitization of analog originals
Image editing with photographic specifics using professional software and generative AI tools
Calibration and setup of a consistent digital workflow
Application of digital camera technology
Requirements:
Basic knowledge of analog photography and common computer operating systems is required for independent work or must be acquired in relevant courses.
